Opening for the role of “Associate Director, High Performance Compute Engineering”, with Arrowstreet Capital, Limited Partnership (“Arrowstreet” or “ASC”), headquartered at 200 Clarendon Street, 30th Floor, Boston, MA 02116.

Telecommuting benefit (i.e., work from home) available. In an information technology (“IT”) role like this, the resource must be onsite, working at the above-named employer address and headquarters location, at least one day each week. Apart from this requirement, may telecommute and work remotely from home up to four days a week. Note it is currently permissible, however (due to various regulations and policies), to telecommute and work remotely from home in the following five states: Massachusetts; Rhode Island; New Hampshire; Connecticut; or Vermont. Person filling the role therefore must live in one of those five states. This is because, again, must work at least one day per week from within and as required to be at Arrowstreet’s Boston office (address given above), with remote work from a state specified allowable the remainder of the time.

Position is a permanent, immediately available, job opportunity that does not require any travel to client or customer sites. Will work within the software development team responsible for the robust compute platform used by Arrowstreet’s Research Systems Group. This scalable platform critically enables the firm, as a systematic asset manager, to identify investable trading strategies and implement them quickly and with the highest quality. Key focus of this role will be on portfolio simulation capability used to quantify the effect of different investment strategy variations. Scope will span new financial instruments, different entry and exit criteria, and different trading cost estimates.  Traditional, job description reflects other duties performed as follows: execute code parallelization; perform data structure memory layout; implement software features, as requested by quantitative leaders, operating in Arrowstreet’s Research Systems Group; ensure robust and efficient execution of financial processes across large server farm; engage in design, development and support regarding general compute platforms, both on premise and on Amazon Web Services; work closely with personnel in Arrowstreet’s Research Systems Group on the review and definition of requirements for systems that perform systematic forecasting and simulate the impact of a large number of variations to primary investment strategies; develop, recommend and explore innovative technical designs that meet system requirements and reflect high performance, parallelization and scalability, using tools that include Python; engage in end-to-end software project management, from requirements gathering, to managing design, development, testing and support functions; continuously measure code throughput and quality; work to identify areas for code improvement; develop verification plans and implement unit tests to validate the correctness and performance of solutions; debug problems; and respond with timely and appropriate solutions to issues identified during software quality assurance.       

Full-time position requiring a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in computer science or a related technological discipline (to include computer applications, information technology, information science, information security or assurance, information management, computational management, or management or computer information systems); or in engineering (to include and span computer, software, electronics, electrical, mechanical, or communication engineering, or engineering management); or in another acceptable and related quantitative field (this will include and can encompass the disciplines of mathematics and also physics). Also required are five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the following: (a) working with large-scale, high-performance, multi-threaded computer systems; (b) performing technical project management; (c) engaging in software architecture and building distributed systems, specifically using Python; (d) applying knowledge of operating systems, storage and memory considerations in performing software development; and (e) developing cloud-native solutions on a public cloud platform.     

May alternatively qualify with a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in computer science or a related technological discipline (to include computer applications, information technology, information science, information security or assurance, information management, computational management, or management or computer information systems); or in engineering (to include and span computer, software, electronics, electrical, mechanical, or communication engineering, or engineering management); or in another acceptable and related quantitative field (this will include and can encompass the disciplines of mathematics and also physics). Where Master’s-qualified, one must also show two years of experience, all specifically involving the following: (a) working with large-scale, high-performance, multi-threaded computer systems; (b) performing technical project management; (c) engaging in software architecture and building distributed systems, specifically using Python; (d) applying knowledge of operating systems, storage and memory considerations in performing software development; and (e) developing cloud-native solutions on a public cloud platform.
